Empowering Future Therapists: Field Visit to PDUNIPPD [IPH] Delhi by Rama University's Paramedical Sciences Faculty

The Faculty of Paramedical Sciences at Rama University, Kanpur, led by the esteemed guidance of Principal Dr. Brijendra Nigam, orchestrated a transformative one-day field visit to the prestigious institution PDUNIPPD [IPH] in New Delhi, India. This enriching experience was exclusively tailored for the 4th-year Bachelor of Physiotherapy students, further enhancing their academic journey.
Under the able guidance of Dr. Manjit Kumar, a dedicated team of 28 students embarked on a profound exploration of PDUNIPPD [IPH]-DELHI on the 4th of August 2023. The visit provided an unparalleled opportunity to delve into the institution's multifaceted endeavors and gain profound insights into their invaluable contributions to the advancement of differently-abled individuals.
During this illuminating visit, students were intricately acquainted with PDUNIPPD [IPH]-DELHI's operational dynamics, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and the comprehensive array of government initiatives designed for the holistic well-being of differently-abled individuals.
The students had the privilege to tour various departments including Assessment and Diagnosis, Prosthetics and Orthotics Clinical Lab, Cross Disability Early Intervention Centre, Physiotherapy and Gym Facilities, Occupational Therapy, Virtual Reality and Visual Stimulation Training, Feeding and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), Preparatory School, Sensory Integration Therapy, Speech Therapy and Audiology, Audio Therapy, Psychology, Transdisciplinary Studies, Family Counselling, and Behaviour Management. Each department showcased the remarkable strides made by PDUNIPPD [IPH] towards fostering a truly inclusive and barrier-free environment for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
A highlight of the visit was the in-depth exploration of the Clinical Orthotics and Prosthetics Lab, where students were enlightened about the intricate process of prescribing and customizing prosthetic and orthotic aids. With a focus on patient-centered care, students learned how precise training and individualized approaches play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with diverse abilities.
Furthermore, the students were exposed to the formulation section, gaining insights into the meticulous alignment of orthotic devices to cater to the unique needs of each patient. Witnessing real patient training in progress further deepened their understanding of the practical applications of their academic pursuits.
The visit to the Sensory Integration Therapy Unit highlighted the significance of specialized interventions for conditions such as cerebral palsy, ADHD, and Down syndrome. Additionally, students were enlightened about the crucial role of mobility aids and the government's proactive policies in ensuring access to these aids for all segments of society.
This transformative experience profoundly underscored the importance of a comprehensive Rehabilitation Team in the holistic care and support of patients. Through this exposure, the students of Rama University's 4th-year Bachelor of Physiotherapy program gained invaluable insights, fostering a deeper understanding of the nuances and intricacies of their chosen field.
